If you want to start a business, but you are strapped for cash, what are you to do? Many people who find themselves in this situation turn to ads that offer "easy" access to "free" government money. Naturally, there is a catch. These claims are blatantly false. What government money is available is for specialized research and it is not easy to get.
Browsing the internet or trolling through the television stations, you may come across many ads that claim buying their video, audio, or paperwork package will give you information to obtain "free" government money. These websites always want you to pay a pretty penny, anywhere from $30 to $50, for bogus information. Not that the government does not offer grants, it's just that most of the money goes to non-profits that give advice and services to small businesses. They don't generally dole out millions to just anybody!
The rumor of free government money continues for many reasons. Conniving people set up shop to take your money by selling these books/CDs/DVDs at high prices. The product you buy ends up being little more than a list of government numbers. Calling them won?t help, as they will tell you they don?t offer such things. Perhaps the book tells you this is what they?ll say; keep trying, the book advises you. No matter how much you persist, the person who answers the phone cannot make the money appear! Be wary of anything that advertises ?free? anything, especially money!
In today's age of relentless internet marketing, it is not surprising that people fall for this scam. People would love to get a government grant for home business. It would solve all the money issues that arise when starting a business. These predators prey on people who are blinded by hope. Hope is good thing, but don't let something that is "too good to be true" get the best of you. Anything that advertises "free" money should be looked at skeptically!
Government grants for business do exist, just not the type advertised. They are hardly ever easy to get. The Small Business Administration, a government division, offers a program dubbed the Small Business Innovative Research grant. If you plan on researching some new technology, you could get $100,000. If you are not a qualified scientist, this is not even an option!
One way to legitimately benefit from government grants for business is to try getting money through a block grant. Block grants are given to specified regions to help with economic growth. One of the only ways to qualify is to demonstrate that you can create jobs in the area. These are not widely available, so keep your eyes peeled!
Government business loans are usually offered. However, since loans must be paid back, with interest, they are not for everybody. Before resorting to a loan, you must ensure that no matter what happens with the business that you can pay it back. Think long and hard before accepting loans.
Starting a business can be hard. The dream of easy money through government grants for home business certainly is understandable. Unfortunately, there are bad people who will exploit this dream for their own profit. If you want real information, visit the SBA website. Always be on guard when people advertise government grants for home business!
