Ok. It took you long enough but you decided to go for it and start your own business. That's great. But what do you do next?
In the old days you could choose to cold call or go door to door trying to sell your product or service. You could choose to hire advertising experts to create a flashy but expensive advertising campaign. Maybe you were one of those who used the postal service to mail offers and flyers about your company to the general public.
You'll be glad to know that none of the above is necessary today. Why not? We now have the internet. Since the advent of the internet a small business owner can compete with much larger competitors in terms of utilizing some smart internet marketing methods. In doing so you save money on your advertising budget while putting profits from sales into your pocket faster.
Create your own website. Nowadays it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to do so. You can create a high quality site with relatively little expense. Or, better yet, you can join a business that already has its own website. In this case, I would recommend setting up your own personal lead capture page so that you can collect and store all of the contact information from the visitors to your site because they are your potential buyers and customers.
Lucky for you there are a lot of different marketing methods available over the internet. Yes, a lot of them cost absolutely nothing. Banner ads is one such method although it is not my favorite. You can now write and post numerous free ads on certain sites and research them before getting started.
One ideal way to incease the number of visitors who click on your site is to either give away something for free or give away something valuable for a nominal charge. Writing free e-newsletters will bring more people in for you but you might not like the idea of having to write regularly. How about an e-book? It can be short and informative and you can either give it for free or for a small charge. Of course, you will want to include a link to your lead capture page in the newsletter or e-book.
Most entrepreneurs are so focused on marketing their own product or service they often miss one of the best and most profitable strategies available on the internet today. I'm talking about affiliate marketing. What is it, you ask? Simply put, you sign up as an affiliate on certain other people's sites to refer their product or service to the visitors on your site. You can create an affiliate link on your site to several other sites and receive commissions when your traffic buys from the other site. Some people who visit your site may never become your customer but you can make money from them anyway if they buy from a site on which you are an affiliate. And what about the people who are already your customers? Who says you can't cross-sell more than one thing to the same customer?
No longer do you have to sell your house or your car to fund an advertising budget for your new business. No longer do you have to spend hours on sales calls to people who are not even pre-qualified. The internet, with its global reach, can do your marketing for you. Even if you join a business with its own website, I recommend that you create your own website or at least your own lead capture page. And whether you write free ads for your business online or place free banner ads you are not spending money to advertise. Don't be shy about giving away quality content for free. E-books and e-newsletters will be worth it in the long run by attracting more people to your site. Please don't forget about affiliate marketing. This can be a tremendous boost to your profits at any stage of your business cycle. What are you waiing for? You can get started and begin making money today!
